This is a rare Silver Plate Egg Coddler by the English firm of Fenton Brothers LTD, Sheffield England. It is a round covered dish with an Ivory knob. The piece sits upon legs that are formed as tree branches. The filigree decoration on the lid looks like ferns indicative of the Pteridomania, "Fern Fever" of the Victorian era. On the inside is an egg holder for four eggs. Suspended on the bottom is a burner to keep the eggs warm. It is stamped on the bottom with the Fenton Brothers Mark.
