Late Aesthetic Movement Lily of The Valley Cup and Saucer

Description

This is a rare late Aesthetic Movement or Art Nouveau style Lily of The Valley Demitasse Cup and Saucer. It is hand painted with Lily of The Valley flowers, and has heavy gold applied enameled paint. The handle is characteristic with the bamboo shaped, and motif of this movement. It is signed by the famous San Francisco painter on the bottom "Nettle King Firebaugh"

Nettie King Firebaugh (1873 - 1960)
Born in Oakland, CA on Aug. 12, 1873. Nettie King lived in Eureka before settling in San Francisco at an early age. After studying art at the Mark Hopkins Institute (1893-99) she was active in the local art scene from the turn of the century. At her studio on Bush near Van Ness, she painted miniatures on ivory and porcelain. After marrying Joseph Firebaugh in 1910, she established a home in San Francisco at 643 Oak Street where she remained until her demise on July 8, 1960.
