Martin Ernest Hoy was born on August 14 1875 in Becket, Berkshire, Massachusetts. He married Mary Etta Furey in 1920. He studied under William M. Chase, John Johansen (1876 - 1964), Kenyon Cox (1856 - 1919) and George Bridgman (1865 - 1943) in New York City at the Art Students League and The National Academy of Design. During the summer months he lived on Pontoosuc Lake at Pittsfield, Massachusetts and did a considerable amount of paintings at his studio there. He exhibited at many different art leagues around the eastern the seaboard, and was a regular at the Pittsfield Art League. He signed his work M.F. Hoy. Mr Hoy was an instructor for over 34 years at the Boys Club in Pittsfield Ma. He died Dec.7 1944 in Pittsfield, Berkshire Massachusetts.
