Description:
A Japanese bone brise fan, the front and back decorated with Cranes amidst plants, and fish in the famous Hiramaki and Takamaki styles with heavy gold in relief. All of the guardsticks are decorated in with the same motif. It is painted on the reverse in the same motif but different scene. It looks to be from the last quarter 19th century. The fan was incased in a wooden gilt frame with glass.
Note:
It is possible that this fan is in fact Chinese in the Japanese taste. It would be the same time period. It is rare for the Chinese to do a fan in the Japanese taste. I hope this helps in the discovery of this piece.
